The ultra:bit is a platform that aims to inspire children to become creative technological creators through events, tutorials and school theme projects – supervised by teachers and well-known characters.

The Jury says
This design solution is notable because it took an existing open-source idea and technology (from the BBC) and designed a complete educational program around it. The communication to fourth-graders was successful, having a high level of recall – particularly amongst girls. The program had a significant impact; 9/10 children concluded that coding was easier than they expected it to be. Less than 1/10 found the learning experience boring or difficult. Through effective design, the ultra:bit program meets the children where they are with a technology they can use.
