Søuld Acoustic Fragments

Acoustics from leftover eelgrass.

Instead of discarding leftover material from production, Søuld Acoustic Fragments turns them into a new design resource. Søuld Acoustic Fragments is a modular acoustic system made from offcuts from Søuld’s own eelgrass panels. The material is cut into smaller elements that can be rotated and shifted to create changing patterns, depth, and shadow effects. The eelgrass absorbs sound while also creating a natural, tactile expression in which color and texture vary from module to module.

The construction industry places heavy demands on both natural resources and the climate, and many acoustic solutions are still based on synthetic materials. Søuld instead uses local, renewable eelgrass that naturally washes ashore along the Danish coast. With Acoustic Fragments, offcuts from the company’s own production are actively given a new life as acoustic models. The material stores more CO2 than is emitted during production, showing how excess material from production can gain a new function and become a visible part of the interior.
