Perineal tears are one of the most common injuries during vaginal birth. ASISU is a CE-marked medical device developed to reduce the risk of perineal tears. The device is positioned both externally on the perineum and internally in the vaginal canal as the baby’s head crowns. It helps distribute pressure more evenly and reduce strain on the tissue. Its self-adhesive design keeps ASISU in place hands-free, allowing the midwife to continue using normal manual techniques and provide support during birth.

Between 80% and 90% of women experience perineal tears during vaginal birth, and these injuries can lead to incontinence, pain, sexual dysfunction, and reduced quality of life. Today, midwives primarily protect the tissue manually from the outside, even though tears often begin further inside the vaginal canal. ASISU provides support where hands cannot reach and complements existing practice. Simulations show that the device can reduce peak tissue strain by up to 50%.
