A National Identity for the Outdoors
A visual identity for the wild
Denmark has a wealth of hiking trails, but no shared visual identity to connect them. That is the identity Urgent.Agency has developed for Danmarks Naturstier. It is intended to make the country’s many routes recognizable as parts of one unified network and to work across signage, trail markers, maps, digital platforms, and social media. The central symbol is inspired both by intersecting paths and the branching forms found in nature. The colors and graphic elements are designed to provide clear guidance without competing with the beautiful Danish landscape.
The shared identity is not only meant to show the way, but to make nature trails a more visible and cohesive part of outdoor life in Denmark. Just as the Marguerite Route became a shared symbol for scenic experiences by car, the ambition is to create a recognizable symbol for exploring nature on foot. The first route to carry the identity is the 27-kilometer Amarmino trail in Naturpark Amager, since then Gletsjerruten, Perlen Bølling Sø, Blue Walk, and Panoramaruten Mariagerfjord have followed. The network will gradually expand across Denmark. The goal is to create a symbol that, over time, feels as natural in the landscape as the trails themselves.
