Urban Rigger is a sustainable solution to Denmark's need for additional student housing. The floating shipping containers present an affordable, nearly energy neutral alternative for city living.

The jury says

Bjarke Ingels’s new floating, solar-powered student housing units, which so far have been realized by Refshaleøen in Copenhagen, can help meet the demand for cheap and flexible housing in European cities. Urban Riggers uses existing materials to save on resources during the construction phase and features simple and efficient integrated solar and hydro-power solutions. Overall, future homes need to be smaller in order to be sustainable. Here, Urban Rigger can serve as an inspiring example of small, but bright and functional homes with a healthy indoor climate.
