Thoravej 29 is a community and workspace in Copenhagen’s Nordvest district. It brings together 150 members from 30 organizations working in art, politics, social innovation, and sustainability – all united by a shared goal: to explore new ways of creating positive societal change.

The building, designed by Pihlmann Architects, is a leading example of circular architecture. In the transformation of the former industrial space, 95% of the original materials were reused – earning project awards such as the Renovation Prize 2025 and Building of the Year. Thoravej 29’s brand strategy and identity design is developed by Studio C – true to Thoravej 29’s spirit, they designed an open process inviting all community members to join workshops about the brand strategy, tone of voice, and visual identity.

More than just a workplace, Thoravej 29 also serves as a public meeting point. The house includes a café, exhibitions, events, and the future lab, Snart, an open space for anyone interested in shaping the world we want to live in.

THE JURY SAYS

Thoravej 29 demonstrates how design can build a community as powerfully as it shapes a space. Home to over 150 people across art, social innovation, politics, sustainability, and digital development, it is united by a shared manifesto that rejects inertia in favour of collaboration and measurable impact. The building embodies these values through 95% reused materials, where ceilings become stairs and facades become floors in a truly circular architectural approach. Its visual identity was co-created from the outset, designed as a living system that grows with the people who use it.

Thoravej 29 stands as a holistic example of how design, courage, and collective vision can transform both place and society.
