The Ilulissat Icefjord Centre is located 250 km north of the Arctic circle, overlooking the Kangia – Ilulissat – Icefjord. It’s one of the most important sites in the world for monitoring climate change. Additionally, it highlights a unique ecosystem and the culture tailored within it, providing a space for the ice, the science, and the Greenlandic people to tell the story.

The jury says

The design responds to the impact of climate change by communicating past, current, and future conditions. The Ilulissat Icefjord Centre excellently communicates an important message. Thanks to extensive media coverage, it reaches a large audience, not just visitors to the centre but way beyond. This message is worth communicating to journalists as it is easy to understand. It is also fair to mention that this is the result of a vast cross-collaboration involving geologists, anthropologists, designers, artists, etc., from all over the world.
