Excess energy produced from renewable resources can be stored and distributed effectively, by using molten salt as a medium for energy storage. The Jury says This concept enables collaborative efforts between various partners, facilitated through strong visualisation, to make a sustainable business from storing excess renewable energy. The basic science is not new, but enabling different partners to work together to realise and scale the idea is. Effectively the molten salt acts as a rechargeable battery and the concept could be a part of realising the goal of low cost, zero emission energy by 2050 in Europe.
