Denmark’s national design award, “Danish Design Award”, was presented this afternoon. Due to the corona epidemic, the award ceremony was not held as per-usual at Industriens Hus, but instead, took place at Fredericia Furnitures showroom in Copenhagen via Facebook live.

Danish Design Award focuses on the impact and value design can make, while paying a tribute to companies and designers across the country by the difference their solutions can make to industry, society and everyday life. The 15 categories of the award range from designs that can contribute to job creation or saving resources, as well as designs that improve better health or represent a visionary concept.

Danish Design creates value

Danish Design Award is showcased in collaboration between Danish Design Centre and Design Denmark.

Christian Bason, CEO, Danish Design Centre

“Corona has changed a lot – including the format for this year’s Danish Design Award. But one thing is certain: Design has never been more important. We know there will be an increased need for creative solutions when we begin to restart Denmark and the rest of the world – which is why it has been an exceptional privilege this year, to celebrate the difference design can make”.

Abelone Varming, administrative director, Design Denmark

“The Danish design scene is still a leader in cutting-edge design with a focus on aesthetics, function and people at the core. In a crisis like now, design can be crucial to how we get through. As an internationally recognized design nation, Denmark is rich in design skills, and the entire Danish society is currently experiencing an intense pressure test. And it works! Now it is about focusing on the learning outcomes COVID-19 brings, in addressing the global crisis: the climate. Not everything is design, but design can be used everywhere – especially when we are in a crisis. That is the difference we make as a design subject and this is what we celebrate together with the Danish Design Award. ”
