The Climate Tile is a rainwater solution to limit the damage from heavy rainfall in cities. By handling the water from roofs and urban spaces in the tiles, the climate tile helps to avoid flooding
The Jury says
This design solution proposes using the sidewalk as an effective barrier during storms, enabling the water to drain away slowly. The Climate Tile is also a new water supply and can enable new city qualities to arise. The Climate Tile thus addresses water as both a danger and a resource. In Copenhagen there are 700km of sidewalk. There are 21,000km in New York City and several million kilometers of sidewalk in cities around the world. Thus the approach is highly scalable globally. An aspect of a visionary concept is that it invites experimentation and the first installation of the Climate Tile can be seen in Heimdalsgade, Nørrebro in Copenhagen.
